There are three ways to tell if a hose is damaged or faulty. You can wait until it contaminates a product and consumers complain. You can wait until it fails by leaking or bursting and - if its contents are high temperature, corrosive or under high pressure - potentially injures an employee. Or you can call in the experts and have it tested.

Assuming you go for option three rather than risk a disaster, you'll want to be sure you contact people not only with hose know-how, but also with the technology to do more than conduct a simple external visual inspection. After all, hidden damage to the liner can be just as likely to cause a hose failure as any other damage, and is actually becoming more prevalent with the trend towards more aggressive cleaning processes.

One solution is to call on ERIKS Hose Technology, which - as its name suggests - has the technology as well as the know-how and experience.

The ERIKS Hose Technology on-site testing teams not only conduct an external visual inspection, but also utilise up-to-the-minute fibre optic technology in an endoscopic camera, which can be inserted into your hoses to check for internal damage, deposits or partial blockages - which would not show up any other way before causing a failure. The team also pressure tests the hoses to 1½ times their bar rating e.g. up to 15 bar for a 10 bar-rated hose. In addition to exposing any weak spots, this also ensures that if a hose passes the test you can safely continue to use it for its rated application, knowing that it is more than up to the job.

Once testing is complete, the ERIKS team gives all hoses a unique asset number, carefully logs all the data, and creates an online asset register which provides a performance benchmark for future testing. This can be posted on your own network, where you can have instant access to the data, as well as being able to print off test certificates if required. The team will also define the condition of each of your hoses as either Green (safe for continued use), Amber (continue to monitor, and order a new hose in advance ready for replacement), or Red (replace as a matter of urgency).

ERIKS' hose testing teams are hose experts, with a minimum of 15 years' hose experience. This means they can not only thoroughly test all your hoses, but if you choose a more comprehensive service they can also investigate the cause of any hose problems they identify, and suggest solutions to prevent a recurrence. They can also replace faulty or failing hoses, make regular site visits for repeat testing, replace hoses as necessary and invoice accordingly - taking any hose worries, and much of the responsibility, off your shoulders.

Once they have gained sufficient knowledge of your site, hoses and applications, they can even provide an all-encompassing hose service on a fixed price contract, which makes your hoses entirely our concern.
