Unchained from lubrication
Uniquely, the nickel-plated Syno chain has a roller coating which is also suitable for use in the food industry
Chain and lubrication don’t have to be linked together, as the Renold Syno lube-free chain range proves.
For food and beverage applications – where lubrication contamination is an unacceptable risk – the lubrication-free sintered bush construction of Renold’s Syno chain is the ideal solution. Incorporating a food industry-approved lubricant within the sintered bush itself, Syno releases lubricant when under load, but effectively ‘sucks’ it back up when the load is taken off. This means no excess oil is able to get into the production process, and also that the chain will normally never need re-lubricating.
This not only eliminates the possibility of contamination, but also the cost of food-industry approved lubricants and – in locations where the chain is hard to access – an expensive auto-lubrication system.
The longer life of the Syno chain more than compensates for its slightly higher initial cost. For example, in a fruit processing application, the Syno chain had a life of 33 months compared with only 12 months for a lubricated chain, reduced downtime by 80%, and saved over £1750 over the life of the chain. Similarly, in a comparative test against a competitor’s lubricated chain, a Renold Syno chain extended by only 0.1% after 3,000 hours’ operation and was able to continue in service, whereas the competitor’s chain – despite regular lubrication – had extended by more than the recommended 2%.
Uniquely, the nickel-plated Syno chain has a roller coating which is also suitable for use in the food industry. The chain is available from ERIKS in boxed 10-foot lengths from 06B-24B, and ANSI 40 to ANSI 100, simplex and duplex. With a standard pin diameter, which allows for standard attachments on the outer links, Renold Syno chain is fully interchangeable with standard roller chain, and is even compatible with standard sprockets.
