PAT Testing : What Should Be PAT Tested?

Portable Appliance Testing

Any appliance that plugs into a socket should be tested. This includes hand tools, IT equipment, kitchen equipment, hoovers, extension leads, cd players, etc.

  • Leads are tested as a separate test from the appliance i.e. a PC is 4 tests (PC, VDU and 2 leads)
  • PAT Testing
  • On IT equipment we do not carry out a leakage test as this could cause damage
  • We do not carry out an earth bond test on Class 2 equipment (i.e. radio, clock, charger), as there is no earth on these appliances
  • Some Highly sensitive measuring appliances are not PAT Tested, as the manufacturer will calibrate them
