RSO Testing This test unit is used with an oscilloscope to test both the turn and ground insulations of generator rotors. Rotors can be tested at speed in a generator to test for shorted turns, and it can be used in the stationary mode too. With large rotors running at 3000rpm they can develop turn faults at speed, which are not in evidence when stationary. The unit is designed to detect where faults are within the rotor windings, thus making it much easier to repair.
