Cantilever Commutators

Cantilever Commutators made with a steel bush only at the wound end

Most commonly found in some of ABB’s range of DC motors, the cantilever design of commutator was made with a steel bush only at the wound end, whereas in standard commutators there is a steel bush at both ends which provide improved stability and better wear characteristics.

Sometimes known as “Flying Comms”, Lambeth Commutators re-design the front end of the cantilever types to provide more stability without jeopardising the air flow through the armature, which prevents temperature rise becoming a risk to premature failure.
