The new 2015 600cc Motorcycling World Champion (Paraplegic) is the ERIKS-sponsored Talan Skeels-Piggins.
Only three years down the track from becoming the first paraplegic ever to race a motorcycle in an able-bodied race, Talan has just won the World Championship at the world’s only disabled motorcyclists’ race, held at the Autodromo Vallelunga in Italy.
In 2012 Talan gained the first-ever ACU Road Race licence for a paraplegic to compete against able-bodied racers, and celebrated by coming 12th out of 38 in that year’s Minitwin Championship. He’s also the first paraplegic ever to gain an ACU Hill-Climb and Sprint Race Licence to compete against able-bodied racers on solo motorcycles.
Now racing a Suzuki GSXR600K1, Talan leads the Talan Racing Team of four disabled riders: three paraplegics and one above-the-knee amputee. He is also the founder of The Bike Experience charity, which has to date taught over 125 disabled motorcyclists how to ride again.
With races lined up for June at Donington in the British Motorcycle Racing Club (BMRC) Grand Prix, and at the Castle Combe circuit in the NG Road Racing Championship, followed by further BMRC and Thundersport appearances in August, September and October, Talan shows no signs of slowing down.
He will also be joining ERIKS at the Mallory Park Bike Bonanza in Leicestershire on 11th/12th July.
With ERIKS’ continued sponsorship support and a dedicated professional team around him, we’re sure Talan is racing towards even more success this season.
