Forco Electrical Services Limited was formed in 1965 by four ex-Hoover engineers. They became the South West´s leading service and repair agents for Hoover Limited and also repaired other makes of domestic appliances.
The four directors were time served apprentices in their respective trades before joining Hoover: Mr. P Haydon as a winder/fitter on AC and DC motors, Mr. M Snell as an electrician, Mr. A Davis as a machinist/fitter and Mr. N Ebdon as a welder/fitter. This was a great advantage when the company decided the future in domestic appliance repairs was limited and moved into industrial electric motor repairs.
This move coincided with a move into larger premises, the old brewery in Lower North Street, which allowed the business to expand its type and class of work. This included several coil stator and armature winding sub-contracts for larger companies in other parts of England and Wales.
At this time the rewind and motor/control gear sales side of the business was developed from personal canvassing by the directors on industrial concerns through Devon and Cornwall.
As the business grew, the accessibility proved to be very limiting so they subsequently moved to their present location on Marsh Barton Industrial Estate. This has proved to be a very popular decision both with customers and staff. The access is good and with a 5 ton lifting capacity, the size of machinery for repair increased. They now run three 1.25 ton trucks for collection/delivery, providing transport for them to carry out repair/maintenance work for all types of business, large and small, throughout the South West.
Forco at the time of takeover had staff of 17 and are working for the future with a recent addition to their team of a modern apprentice.
Despite old, established competition, Forco made their name, indeed their business, through sheer hard work and by giving exemplary service and quality. In the early days most of the emergency work was carried out by the directors. Being called out at any time, they would either attend to customer´s problems on site, or sometimes drive many miles to collect motors, return to base, and continue repairing until the day staff arrived to take over.
As with many companies established over 30 years ago, time has taken its toll of the original directors, through retirement, illness and death.
Mr. P Haydon, who sadly passed away in July 1998, and being the youngest bought out the other directors a few years ago. His move was carefully studied in order to maintain the original commitment to quality and service by appointing a new young and more dynamic team to run the business: Mr. Emanuele Emery, his son-in-law, responsible for administration and foreign business, owing to his command of several languages; Mr. Mark Krzywinski, his grandson-in-law, responsible for technical support and the workshop, owing to his engineering background.
WYKO an ERIKS Company announced it´s take over of Forco in December 2007.
